Journal 1- 1.What I have learned in class for
past 4weeks was that doing little activities before the an actual speech really
helps. The activities we have done in class so far helped me get more
comfortable speaking to the class about certain topics. I learned how to stay
confident and ways to keep my audience engaged and interested. I learned that
you must speak clearly and go at a normal pace so the audience can understand.
I learned certain ways to tell the difference between an informative and
persuasive speech. I learned that it is better to do a speech with naturalness
other than memorizing it because it will be smoother and less robotic.
2.I think my learning techniques, time
management, and learning attitude has been effective in this course because it
helps me understand the concepts of how to become a good speaker. It helps me
believe in myself more and not give up or be afraid to speak when I am called
on in class. It helps me understand the course piece by piece and helps me stay
focus within the class as well.
3.I think my instructor’s teacher
style and approach, as well as design of learning lessons and learning
activities effective and able to help me learn. I say this because the way she
breaks everything down and asks questions to keep us thinking, as well as
giving us examples, is a good way to help me learn. She shows us videos of
other students speeches from previous years. I am an objective learner so by
watching the videos is a better way for me to understand

Journal 2- 1.What I learned after watching and
evaluating others is that making a speech in front of others can be very nerve
wrecking. A lot of individuals were nervous but they tried to control it. After
evaluating my own speech I noticed I was a little nervous myself. I spoke well
but my body language showed I was nervous.
2.What I learned while working with my
teammates is how to cite properly during and at the end of the presentation. I
did not know how to cite well during the presentation because I didn’t
understand, but after they broke the concept down for me, I caught
on.
3.Jelyssa’s speech stood out the most
to me because we had similar topics. Hers was about child abuse and mine was
about child abandonment and neglect. I love kids a lot so that really caught my
attention and kept my focus.
4.I think Joel has executed strong
leadership skills because he always know what he is doing and how to do things,
so students go to him when they need help with something.
5.I think Katharine showed good
collaboration skills because even though she is naturally quiet and isn’t
comfortable speaking in front of others, she still worked well with her group
and took all the information she learned and presented them during her
speech.
6.I think Joel’s evaluations has been
the most helpful for everyone because he seems to already know how to do the
task or catches on very quickly.
